Plants & Lawns

From David Beaulieu, your Guide to Landscaping
In prior installments of the supplemental Landscaping Newsletter, we've looked at snowdrops, crocus and daffodils. This week, I'm featuring tulips. Some types of tulips may be late to the spring party, but they're certainly worth the wait!

Tulips

Tulips come from Asia, despite the fact that, in the West, they're strongly associated with Holland. That's because no other people has ever gone as head-over-heels for tulips as have the Dutch. We've had a financial "bubble" recently; well, so did 17th-century Holland: a tulip bubble, when tulips were so prized they were traded as a commodity -- until the bubble burst!

I provide information about growing tulips in the article linked to above.

Is Murphy's Law at Work in the Yard?

Murphy's Law applies just as much to gardening as it does to life's other pursuits. Reader, SHoward writes:

"The cost of a new plant or shrub is directly related to the speed with which our dog Henry will destroy it by digging it up, pulling it out of the ground, or urinating on it until it is poisoned to death."

What are your favorite examples of Murphy's Law, applied to landscaping the yard or working in the garden?

What Plants Do You Hate?
I've asked you questions in the past regarding your favorite plants. Now let's switch gears. Do you despise any plants?. The most-hated plants are often those that are "overused" or gaudy; please state your own reasons for hating whichever plants you name.
