What is the secret to achieving high rankings with your website? Well, one of the problems that exists is that search engines do not tell us freely what the secret is to getting your website to the top of search engines…the best that you can do as a website owner is to adhere to what search engines are known to like. There are hundreds and hundreds of different variants that go into a search engine algorithm. It is best to find out which of the variants are the most important, and then make sure that your website covers all of these facets that are critical to high rankings on a search engine.

Raise your PageRank

In order to put yourself into a better position to get higher rankings, you must increase your PageRank. This is really tied in with linking campaigns that I have spoken about on many other blog entries. When your PageRank is high, you open your website up to many possibilities on a search engine. Websites that have a high PageRank (most of the times, 4 and above), are looked upon as pretty important and relevant in the industry by a search engine like Google.

You can have a direct say in the matter of your linking campaign. Submit your website to category specific web directories! When your website link is listed with a directory that has a high PageRank of say, perhaps 5, you have a great link. This can work wonders for your website and serves to show a search engine that you have a quality link pointing to you. The best way that to raise a PageRank is to get listed on as many of these 4+ PageRank directories as possible. This can go a long way in your goal of getting a high ranking.

Establishing an effective backlink campaign can really propel your website rankings…if done correctly of course. The main reason that backlinks are looked upon as positive from a search engine is that it gives an engine a relatively good reading on your website’s popularity.

If you think about it from a search engine’s point of view, you can see how they get good information from the amount of backlinks to a website. If website A has 20,000 backlinks from industry specific websites that point directly to it, you can safely assume that website A is important in it’s industry. However, if website B has only 10 links that point directly to it, then you can see how a search engine may not render this site more important than others such as website A. The fact that website A has tons and tons of backlinks that point directly to the website shows that many others on the net deem this website important. If that is the case, the search engine is going to rank the website accordingly. In essence, a search engine will say to itself, “Well, this website seems to have a lot of links, this website thus needs to be displayed at the top of the ranks!.

If you are going to be building a website and you are searching for ways to create your website with good SEO in mind, then this blog is for you! Too many website and business owners will create a website first without any thought as to what the search engines will think of it. This can often times lead to expensive website redesigns and lots of frustration. The best advice that I can give is to make sure to think about the SEO of your website before, during and after the website creation process.
