From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats

This will be my last newsletter for February. I am looking forward to March and Spring, and the resumption of the Sunday Special Newsletters.

Have a great week, cuddle some cats, and see you next Thursday!

Coming in March: Tabby Cats

Tabbies are so ubiquitous that many people think of them as a breed. Not so; the tabby is a color pattern - most often stripes, but sometimes stripes and whorls, or even spots and stripes. The tabby pattern is so popular that it can be found in many pedigreed cats today.

Readers Share Cat Photos

At About.com our Show & Tell application makes it easy to share true stories and photos of cats on a variety of topics. Featured here are several of the popular subjects with selected readers' true stories and photos, and the list will eventually encompass ALL the photo ops on this site. After you've read them, take the opportunity to publish your own true cat story. You are encouraged to upload up to two photos of your cat(s), as well, and may enter as many categories as you wish.

Reader Gem of the Week: Chatty Calypso

Calypso, my two year old calico, has a wide assortment of odd and mostly cute sounds that she makes. It's like she's giving a running commentary on her day. "I'm watching birds - ooh, there's a ball, I batted it ... wonder what Coco is doing - Coco, play with me ... mommy, whatcha doin?" She makes odd little "mmrps" and mews and "ar" sounds.

The funniest is the sound she makes if I've shut her in a room (which I did a lot in the early days of integrating her with Coco). When I go to let her out she makes a "mrrr mrr mrr" sound that is kind of like a grumpy old man - cracks me up every time.

Cat Behavior: Cat Poop

No one but cat lovers can sufficiently appreciation the intricacies of cat poop. We humans would much appreciate our cats to cover their poop, and usually, our litter-box-trained cats do. Kittens can even be trained to the litter box, and to cover their poop. This brand new article by Amy Shojai, CABC, discusses this intimate matter in great detail. Amy writes:

If your kitty has always dug-and-covered as normal litter box behavior, and suddenly makes a statement with uncovered poop, ask yourself. . .learn more.
