The featured spring bulb plant in this week's supplemental Landscaping Newsletter is the daffodil. What child isn't fascinated by their proboscis-like coronas, protruding from a sun face of yellow petals? And what gardener, yearning to feel child-like again in spring, doesn't eagerly await the daffodils' clarion call, announcing better times to come?

All plants are special (OK, maybe not certain weeds!). But some plants are a bit more special to us than others. Daffodils merit inclusion in this list of the crème de la crème because they:

  • Usher in spring
  • Have unusually-shaped flowers
  • Are squirrel-resistant and fragrant
