Beautiful Slaughterhouse Beach House with Incredible Scenery by Olson Kundig Architects Posted: 27 Jul 2011 12:46 AM PDT Designed by Olson Kundig Architects, This beautiful beach house design with incredible scenery is located close to a well-known surfing spot on the island of Maui in Hawaii. Slaughterhouse Beach House expands the concept of a traditional surfing hut with three connected huts – general living quarters, guest suites, and a main sleeping area. The structure's walls are constructed from rammed earth. In this process, different local earth-based mixtures are packed together, and the resulting striated layers are visible both inside and outside the building. The walls blend in with the surroundings, are low maintenance, virtually fireproof, and a strong barrier to sound.

Tropical ISEAMI House Arcitecture in Costa Rica by Robles Arquitectos Posted: 26 Jul 2011 07:52 AM PDT The ISEAMI (Institute of sustainability, ecology, art, mind and investigation) house located in Peninsula de Osa, Costa Rica. Was designed by Robles Arquitectos with the concept of responsible approach to the nature of its location, the Peninsula de Osa, a place where 5% of the world's biodiversity materialize. RoblesArq using low maintenance house concept for this building, reducing the impact of management and design plan to the natural environment, with structural and electro mechanic design has been inspired on an exo-skeleton insect, this way the creation of open spaces between walls and ceilings are eliminated, creating a benefit for the indoor air quality. The roof design allows the occupants to have an integration with the mountains around with an "open to the sky" concept, this way, cross ventilation, daylight and views are present in every single space around the house. The distribution of the house looks for a new way of living where all the activities have the possibility to be developed outside, this way the integration between the interior and the exterior become successful and natural, creating possibilities to enjoy nature on its original state as much as the occupants desires it. Iseami House is the result of an investigation during the design process of a tropical house built on a remote and difficult site in which the main objective was to promote the benefit of the well being of the community and its occupants, all thru an emergent tropical architecture concept.
