The Barrow Timber House by Andrew Maynard in Melbourne, Australia Posted: 12 Jul 2011 10:39 PM PDT Andrew Maynard Architects have designed the Barrow House which is located at Brunswick, in Melbourne, Australia. This house appears as an arrangement of timber boxes, each independently rotated and subjected to varying amounts of extruding and manipulating forces. These separate actions result in a variety of shapes, which united, create an interior of differing volumes and organizations, providing an interesting double story addition to this weatherboard house. The extension challenges the traditional nature of timber construction. The entirety of the design also employs materials reused from the parts of the previous house as well as recycled or found elements, decreasing the carbon footprint of the design and also adding character to the spaces. The strategic placement of a separate living space at the western end of the site, reflects the focus of the site internally, frames the large open area & increases privacy levels.

The Luxury Elysium 154 House by BVN Architecture in Noosa, Queensland, Australia Posted: 12 Jul 2011 07:24 AM PDT Designed by BVN Architecture as part of the Noosa project, a residential development within the highly desired Noosa Heads postcode. The Luxury Elysium 154 House located in Noosa, Queensland, Australia. This house truly enjoy the beautiful site, which slopes gently from the road south towards a small park to the north, and openspace. Gentle, sweeping, curved walls and forms that identify this house generated by an intuitive response to achieve both the north-east aspect and views to the north of the park areas. The large site completed with communal leisure facilities (tennis courts, health spa, aquatic facilities) parkland and nature reserves is located inland from the Noosa coastline adjacent to Lake Weyba. Theundulating, picturesque landscape of the site retains vast pockets of existing vegetation and is afforded distant views to the Sunshine Coast hinterland beyond. The external textured wallfinishes fold back into the interior of the dwelling along walls and ceilings where carefullydetailed edges and transitions with smooth internal walls allow the threshold between inside and out to be distorted. Drawing the external garden and pool spaces into the building has amplified the sense of subtropical luxury.
