From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats

Apologies and a correction for the bad link in my last newsletter for Funniest Pictures: White Head and His Pom Pom.

A reminder that new Ask Amy questions are suspended until further notice. The new Ask Amy features in today's and Sunday's Amy Special Newsletter are from a backlog of questions.

See you on Sunday! No matter what their breeds, hug your cats until then.

Ask Amy: Cat Attacking Dog

From Amy Shojai: "Ebony attacks Janet's new 'Chiweenie' dog Darby adopted six weeks ago, an eight-pound Chihuahua/Dachshund. 'Ebony goes at her and won't stop. She has hurt her twice, to the point the new dog has been on meds twice in six weeks. I am on egg shells all the time,' says Janet."

Amy offers a wonderful simile: "Stress is like water filling a container - different cats have their own container sizes before stress overflows. Ebony's container has filled to the brim with the new dog, the babysitting visitor dog, and all the other 'norma' stressors of everyday life. It doesn't matter that Ebony previously tolerated the other dogs - this one sloshed over the edge."

What Breed is my Cat?
This step-by-step primer is dedicated to the hundreds of people who have emailed me over the years with cat photos and "What Breed is my Cat?" as the email subject. (And to the dozens more who will post lengthy descriptions and the same question here in the comments.)

The quick answer is "If you don't know already, your cat is likely not of a specific breed, but a domestic cat." An encyclopedia could be written about this topic. However, the most pertinent information related to the question can be summed up for lay people with fewer than a dozen articles.

Read these linked articles carefully. Bookmark them for future reference, and one day you will be an acknowledged "expert" if someone asks you "what breed is my cat?"

Facts About Tuxedo Cats

Did you know that tuxedo cats are 200% smarter than other cats? That the first cat in the new world was a Tuxedo cat named Asgerd aboard a Viking ship, or that the largest inheritance given a cat was to a tuxedo? Learn more amazing bits of fact and/or fiction about tuxedo cats, as researched and verified by Dr. Magrathea Wallace (A stunning Tuxie in her own right.)

I was amazed and mystified to read some of these facts, although friends owned by tuxedos may agree with many of them. Thanks to Dr. Wallace and her personal assistant, Randy Wallace, for taking the time to assemble and submit these facts.

The truth will become clear, as you read further.

Cat Picture of the Week: Sabina

I got my Sabina in 2002 from our local no kill shelter: Furry Friends. I love the colours of my Tabby, they range from caramel to black. Especially in the sunlight, her beautiful fur just glows. She is sooooo devoted to me, that is very hard to leave her for more than a couple of days. She cries so much when I am gone, that she loses her voice from all the crying.

Sabina is indeed a beautiful classic tabby girl, and her coloring is unique, indeed. Her picture was selected for Cat of the Week from the Life With a Tabby Cat gallery, as are all the cats featured during March. Be sure also to read Sabina's full story.
