The Monk's Shadow Residence by Kendle Design Collaborative is a diverse contemporary residence located in Paradise Valley, Arizona. Design of this project answers to the challenges of the existing site, designing a residence located on the hillside and create a conventional house impossible. The home is divided by use: parents zone including master suite, primary family and entertainment functions, and teenager zone including bedrooms, game room, pool access and one of two garages and guest zone including a bed/bath suite and small great room that doubles as the owner's home office. The levels are connected through stairs and each interior has commanding views of the distant mountains and the Valley of the Sun. Its unusual name- Monk's Shadow- is borrowed from a natural formation located nearby known as the Praying Monk.

Twin Family Homes in Spain with a Fantastic Design

Posted: 03 May 2011 07:11 PM PDT

This is a beautiful multi-unit house with a fantastic design called Ripolles-Manrique located in Benicassim, Castellón, (Spain). Was designed by studio Teo Hidalgo Nácher for two close families. The hill-top site overlooks the Mediterranean sea and has an irregular geometry. Here is more from the architects: "A series of transition spaces between the inside and the outside – very common in popular Mediterranean architecture – work together to build a relationship between the houses and their exteriors and provide a sense of order and control. The interiors can be extended and adapted with sliding glass doors, opening up new areas of space that can be used for unexpected purposes. For each house, the main entrance is on the first floor where the private living spaces are; three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a study. The ground floor is designed as an open-plan space that opens up onto the rear patio, side gardens and front terrace and contains all the common areas; the living/ dining room, the kitchen, the utility room and a toilet."
